Gruse is a simple kitchen maid who is not chosen because of her particular nobleness, rather the deed, a decision made in emergency. She is given a child, the child of the governor, who is searched by the rebels. Gruse puts it down. Then picks it up and flees – for a child, who is not hers. The class play based on Bertolt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle explores the topic of the identity shaping power of giving aid and of the responsibility of a decision. Gruse, through hardships and sacrifices, walks the emotional and physical path of adoption, and of the fight of love. The journey of the risk for good and the weight of responsibility is hers. The millennia old story of The Chalk Circle is presented with an epical dialect for four actors, with rough Georgian folk music, on academic stages.Performance of the University of Theatre and Film Budapest.
